Project 3
Light
The purpose of this project is to design a non-denominational chapel for Farmingdale State College. The chapel is intended to serve as a calm and welcoming environment where individuals of all faiths can gather for worship, prayer, and reflection. The project focuses on using light creatively and intentionally to shape the atmosphere of the space. Through thoughtful control of natural and artificial lighting, the design aims to create a functional, peaceful, and visually inspiring environment that encourages spiritual connection.

Light Research
Louis I. Kahn- Exeter Library

The Exeter Library is known for its masterful use of natural light, especially through its dramatic openings and circular voids that guide daylight deep into the building. Kahn designed the library to balance structure, and function, creating an atmosphere of calm focus where study feels almost sacred. The building shows how architecture and light can work together to shape human experience.
Site Selection

I thought this location was ideal for the church for a few reasons. This area is isolated from the academic buildings, which makes it a peaceful place where people can step out. Here, the chapel can take full advantage of natural light, letting daylight become part of the experience.
